Wed seen the 3G-enabled 9.7” ME G1 from HCL being launched during GITEX 2012, and today saw we saw smaller variants that catered to a more price conscious segment being announced. A few moments with the tabs and we came away with a feel of decently power-packed and rather well designed tablets that, as the spokeperson explained, were targeted more at consumers of information. The 3G Y3 was the brands hero offering, a 7” 1024 x 600 multi-touch capacitive screen tablet running on Ice Cream Sandwich with a dual SIM. It has 1GB DDR3 RAM, a dual camera and 8GB internal memory expandable to 32GB. Among the other tablets, the 7” U2 Tab offers a ARM Mali-400GPU, 8GB memory expandable via Micro SD and an HDMI port. The 7” V1 Tab has a facility for 2G calling, and runs on Ice Cream Sandwich with a 1GHz Cortex A8 Processor, 1GB DDR3 RAM, dual camera with LED flash and 8GB internal storage expandable up to 32GB. Prices range from AED 399 for the U2 to AED 749 for the ME Y3 tablet. On a side note, for a brand that faces stiff competition in a market where big names rule, the reps were surprisinglycagey of the media.
